SUMMARY:GRDC Farm Business Update\, online – Toolbox Talks For Harvest – Managing Fatigue Practically
DESCRIPTION:With the busy harvest period approaching – safe and effective performance of your team is front of mind. It’s a great time for toolbox talks to set or refresh practical strategies for communication and managing fatigue on farm. Common causes of fatigue can cumulate during busy times\, resulting in impaired judgement\, reaction time\, coordination and ability to concentrate. People and safety consultant\, Denise McLellan\, dives into conducting toolbox talks with your team in preparation for harvest. Denise will cover practical ways proactive grains businesses are managing fatigue and communication considerations around busy work periods to reduce risks. With over 25 years in farming and agriculture\, Denise’s focus is firmly on the people side of farming. Denise is committed to highlighting that farming and agriculture is a rewarding career\, and that Australian farms are a great and safe place to work.

SUMMARY:GRDC Herbicide behaviour workshop - Perth
DESCRIPTION:A 1.5-day GRDC supported workshop for agronomists on the science underpinning how herbicides work and its application to field practice. This workshop will focus on the biological pathways and environmental factors that influence herbicide performance\, along with interactions that may occur when products are mixed and will be delivered by ICAN Senior Consultant Mark Congreve. \nHerbicide resistance is also changing product use. In many situations\, products and mixtures that previously worked are now less effective. Participants will leave with a better understanding of the key factors dictating herbicide performance and what can be done in the paddock to ensure weed control is maximised. Knowing what weeds will be controlled from a herbicide application is the easy bit – it’s on the label. \nMore challenging questions include: \n\nWhy do herbicides perform or fail in some situations? How do environmental factors influence this?\nWhat can happen when we tank mix?\nCritical comments on the label. Why are they important?\nHow do adjuvants and water conditioning agents work? What should be used\, when and why?\nHow does resistance affect different herbicides? What strategies can be used as resistance emerges?\nHow do residual herbicides work and what influences their breakdown?\n\nWorkshop numbers will be capped to ensure effective participation. Workshop registrations will be accepted on a first-in basis and a ‘wait list’ will be established for workshops that sell out.
